      • How can Jewish heritage sites

        contribute to society today?

Alsace is the ideal place to ask and get answers that will inspire you.

      • Why This Trip

I created this journey because, as I visited site after Jewish heritage site in Alsace, I kept asking the same question: What do we do with this?

Different people gave me different perspectives. My clients, often Americans with some connection to Judaism, were deeply touched by the vestiges of Jews in the Alsatian countryside. The non-Jews who take care of these sites today on a volunteer basis believe that preserving this heritage is a matter of utmost importance.

Why? The circumstances are different every time: Because a local woman has fond memories of her Jewish neighbors. Because city hall saved the synagogue by turning it into a communal space. Because this gorgeous building is simply there, in the middle of the village. Because human dignity means maintaining a cemetery in a dignified way.

But the reason is the same. Because the Jewish story exists within a larger story — and we are part of the same story.

So these dusty synagogues and old cemeteries are not a problem for Jews to solve; they are an opportunity. To expand social circles. To explore the value and role of this heritage today. To stand together with people who see the importance of telling Jewish stories.

Alsace has the highest density of Jewish heritage sites in France. You can easily visit four synagogues in a single day — each one, a small case study in how Jewish heritage can be valued today.

This trip will allow you to deepen your reflections on the role of Jewish heritage. You'll gain perspective through novelty — Jewish history you never knew existed — and beauty — breathtaking landscapes and a generous gastronomy. You’ll leave with new insights, conversations that don't stop when the week ends, enriched by the conversations you've had and ready to share your experience with people in your corner of the world.

        I built this for you.

We loved the planning flexibility, customization of itinerary, attention to detail, excellent follow-up, and wonderful conversation. Fully recommend the pre-planned trip, which is excellent for people without prior exposure to the area. You saved us a significant amount of extra effort in getting oriented and self-sufficient. Alsace is not much of a destination in our circles - we mention you when telling of our adventures!
